What: Second Annual Advent Garden
When: 1 December, 2019, 5:45 PM
We hope you will consider attending this awesome reflective event. It recreates a tradition that originated among the pious farmers of Germany many years ago. A spiral of greens, flowers, and objects from the mineral kingdom will lead to a central lit candle. You will be invited to come into the Garden and walk the spiral carrying a small candle placed in an apple. The central candle, a symbol of the light of Christ, provides light to all who come, and soon the room will be filled with light as each candle is lit and then placed along the path of greens. Accompanying this silent experience will be quiet lyre music. The word ‘advent’ means ‘approaching’ or ‘coming,’ and the Garden is meant to be a place of peaceful contemplation where we can prepare ourselves for the coming journey to Christmas through experiencing the warmth and beauty of the Light shining through the growing darkness.
We will gather at 5:45 pm and will begin promptly at 6:00 pm, after which the doors will be closed in order to preserve the quiet mood of this event for everyone. (Before entering, participants will be asked to turn off all cell phones, cameras, or other electronic devices until after they leave the space.) You may wait outside after the event if you wish to take an apple and candle home with you. The Advent Garden is prepared by URIEL, Center for Human Renewal through the Arts and Education, along with help from the Initativa LunaSol, and with the support from the ICC.
